The Twin PAL is used to increase throughput. It approximately doubles the injection rate of samples. Each PAL is controlled from its own session of Cycle Composer assigned to a different COM port. The application uses an LC injection macro onto 1 valve, using shared samples. PAL1 injects first and alternates samples with the PAL2. Both PALs check for a ready signal from the mass spec (INJECT), and use special Sync signals to check the status of the other PAL before accessing the shared areas.

In order to maximize the speed of injections, valve washes are handled in an unusual way. Both PALS are injecting samples onto a single valve, the syringe of one PAL is filled with wash solvent while the other PAL is injecting, and washes the injection port while the first PAL is washing its syringe.
